Advent Reflection – How has your faith provided happiness for you?
By: Noelle Partusch, Associate Professor of Dance
I have been a Lutheran all my life and have always enjoyed going to church. My parents, grandparents and other wonderful Christian
mentors saw that I got to church and its related activities, assisted me in my faith formation, and mostly modeled a strong walk of faith in Christ Jesus for me to follow. Faith by grace is such an amazing gift we have all been given. The knowledge that my Lord loves me, and did so before I was able to worship Him or pray, makes me very happy. Wow!
There have been times in my life when I wondered what God had in mind because of events and circumstances that were anything but happy. I know everyone has these moments – I believe it’s called “being human.” However, even through these times I have always had a great faith. My life would feel very empty without my faith life. Going weekly to church services and participating in church and other faith-based events is a great source of happiness for me and, as a result, the happiness is reflected in others around me who witness it.
There is a picture on my office wall of the “Laughing Christ” and beside it a plaque that reads “Faith is not believing that God can – it is knowing that He will.” My wish for this advent season is for peace and happiness in great abundance!
