Mercyhurst in the Media and on the Move

Published on September 11, 2013 | By Lindsay Cox

Recently, some of our academic programs have been highlighted in the media and are receving some great (and of course well deserved) attention!

Mercyhurst at the Meadowcroft Rockshelter
Four four decades, Jim Adovasio, Ph.D., D.Sc. has led archaeology teams at the Meadowcroft Rockshelter from an overhanging cliff in Avella, Pa. This area was discovered in 1973 led Adovasio to suggest that it housed an establishment of Native Americans in North America more than 12,000 years ago. Adovasio will return to the Meadorcroft Rockshelter to re-excavate a storm-ravaged section of the National Historic Landmark. While the damage caused by the storm was not ideal, Adovasio and his team will be able to use new data collecting practices that will allow the Mercyhurst Archaeological Institute to stay current with cutting edge technologies. The site while already lending a great deal of knowledge, still has a lot left to teach current and future scholars as some ‘Hurst students and alumni will have the experience to join Adovasio’s team. How lucky students are to have the knowledge and expertise of Dr. Adovasio available to them as well as phenomenal learning opportunities that are only available to Mercyhurst students!

Intelligence Studies Reports Record Enrollment
Inside of the beautiful and still fairly new Center for Academic Engagement, intelligence studies majors are hard at work. This academic year, Mercyhurst intelligence studies reports an enrollment of 500 students total in what is the largest enrollment to date. The program continues to expand and this is largely due to the success of our alumni, who as David Grabelski explains, continue to spread to work throughout the national security, law enforcement, and business communities. Students all over the world continue to hear about the rigor and excellence of our program and the numbers truly reflect this!
