August 6, 2013 – The O’Neil Society Welcomes Youngest Member – Evan Wernecke `07
It is always exciting when someone notifies me that they have included Mercyhurst in their estate plans. Sometimes it is a loyal alumna who has given each year to the Annual Fund; other times it is a member of our Board of Trustees or Alumni Board. There are also non-alumni who admire the work done at Mercyhurst who have made a bequest to the University. It may even be a first time gift intention from an alumnus. The plans take the forms of bequests or as beneficiaries of a life insurance policy or retirement assets. However, it is not every day that I hear from one of our young alumni that they have included Mercyhurst in their will, then came along Evan Wernecke.
Evan graduated with an Associate degree in 2005 and a Bachelor degree in 2007 in Hospitality Management. Many of our younger alumni do not feel the need to have a will and do not think they can make a gift to Mercyhurst. Evan thought differently and encourages all alumni to consider including Mercyhurst in their will for any amount and becoming members of the O’Neil Society, the recognition society for those who have remembered Mercyhurst in their estate plans. Evan is now the youngest member of the O’Neil Society.
Thank you Evan for planning such a special gift and welcome to the O’Neil Society!
