“Mary pondered these things in her heart…”
Did Mary wonder what life held in store for her? Could she imagine the road of sacrifice required to become a wife and parent? Did she consider her sense of purpose in the midst of the changes in her personal life?
Last spring, I graduated from MOPS – Mothers of Preschoolers – after volunteering with this organization for five years. I struggled with my sense of purpose and where I was going to invest my time, energy and efforts. I had the privilege of serving alongside a group of incredible women in leadership who understood that the purpose of leadership was to strengthen the lives of the moms in our group. Therefore after experiencing such an amazing glimpse of how the body of Christ could work together across denominational lines to assist women in their journeys as wives, friends and moms, what was I going to do?
In the summer, I attended an event where I had the joy of reconnecting with some former colleagues. I considered the thought of ministering to students. I’ve been able to do so with our volleyball players and a few other students on campus, but could there be another way? Then a friend approached me about the Campus Ministry position. Similar to Mary, God knew the plans in store for my life, but I had to choose to be faithful by applying for the job.
While I have my fair share of moments where I sit and wonder, can I do it? I then remember that it is not I who am doing this job. I am merely a vessel to encourage others in understanding that God came near and dwells among us.
