Applause! Mercyhurst Alumni Receive Awards

Published on September 17, 2012 | By Lindsay Cox

We certainly know that our students at Mercyhurst University are doing awesome things in academics, athletics and many things beyond the gates of the ‘Hurst. What is equally exciting is when we hear out alumni receiving recognition for their hard work and determination and we are thrilled for them and applaud their achievements.

In recent news, the Mid America Croplife Association announced its award honorees, alumnus Dr. Christina DiFonzo ‘87 being the winner of the MACA Educator of the Year! After graduating from Mercyhurst with a B.S. in biology, she received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Entomology from the University of Minnesota. Andy and Nathan in the action!

More congratulations go out to inductees to the West Branch Hall of Fame – wrestling alumni Andy Lamancusa ‘10 and Nathan Sharp ‘11. Andy was named Male Student Athlete of the Year while at Mercyhurst but entered into our athletics program with an impressive high school career. While attending West Branch High School he was a two-time state placer and holds several records in West Branch as well as Mercyhurst. Nathan’s time at West Branch is remembered by his unprecedented two-time state championship in any sport. While in high school he was awarded with honors for both his wrestling and football careers and continued his wrestling career with great success at Mercyhurst.

Congratulations to Christina, Andy and Nathan on their notable awards!
